The MBDA was created to meet the growing demand for professionals capable of enhancing the competitiveness of sports organisations through the use of technology and data. The programme is designed as a practical, intensive and accessible learning experience, aimed at those who wish to pursue a career in the sports industry and use applied analytics as a key differentiator to add value and contribute to the development of sport.

The MBDA is a formative journey aimed at helping you achieve your goals in elite sport. It is an experience that begins with the theoretical foundations needed to understand the value of data and the technology behind it, and continues with practical training to familiarise you with the sports industry and its unique characteristics. Alongside its long-standing history in international sport, Movistar Estudiantes incorporates the values of education as an integral part of its activities, and it is through this vision that it connects with SBL Education.
The framework of collaboration between the two organisations is underpinned by a shared aim to support the development of sport and of the people who are directly or indirectly involved in it. The aim is to provide a holistic view of the sports industry, with sufficient insight to understand where it stands and where it is heading, from a macroeconomic and global perspective. The MBDA teaching staff draws on sport to inform their academic work, which requires a high level of commitment from us to transform the various case studies into high-impact teaching modules.
Coaches, fitness trainers, sporting directors, agents, journalists and players who all share three qualities: in-depth knowledge of their field, real-world experience of top-level competition, and the ability to convey this knowledge in a classroom setting.

Do you have any questions? Here we answer the most common questions asked by MBDA candidates.
Do I need any prior knowledge of programming?
It isn’t necessary. The core module includes Python from the very beginning, with a curriculum designed to suit all learners, regardless of their prior technical experience.
When do the face-to-face sessions take place?
The optional face-to-face sessions take place over a weekend in Madrid. Students may choose to attend in person or join remotely. Attendance in person is not compulsory.
When and how do I choose my specialism?
You choose your specialisation before the programme begins. During the admissions process, we’ll advise you on which one best suits your profile and career goals.
What exactly does working with Movistar Estudiantes involve?
Students work with real data from the first team during the programme. The Master’s thesis is based on real issues facing the club, with the support of its analytics department.
How many hours a week does the programme require?
The programme is designed to be compatible with work commitments. The estimated time commitment is 8 to 12 hours per week, including live sessions and independent study.
How do work placements work after the Master’s thesis?
Once they have successfully defended their Master’s thesis, students can access our list of work placements at clubs, federations, media organisations and sports organisations through the programme’s network of partners.
